Doing CBT

CBT techniques are goal driven and involve an analysis of motives combined with a conscious effort to implement new behaviours. For this reason, CBT is sometimes more effective when applied after other therapies have addressed subconscious resistance.

Benefits of CBT

  • Conscious self awareness of the components behind specific thoughts and behaviours
  • Validation and self-assertion of your individual place in the world
  • Regular homework encourages practice of the techniques and integration of new behaviours
  • Goal driven approach, which you lead, improves your sense of self-responsibility and achievement
  • Consciously implementing new strategies improves your empowerment and resiliance

CBT assumes that your thoughts and behaviours exist because you learned them at some point. The techniques help you unlearn these negative responses. Through identifying limiting beliefs and challenging them, you come to enjoy new ways of being that support your wellbeing and future goals.
