Living together may be a common alternative to marriage, but it is absolutely not a proper commitment. It is not a commitment at all, and for that reason is a huge source of stress, often subconscious, for both parties because they are engaging in behaviors (i.e. sexual relations and setting up housekeeping) that are properly reserved for marriage but without any commitment or covenant. It's just "I'll do this as long as it works form me." How sad that in the situation you describe there is now a child being born into a non-family. Because another myth is that children derive their security simply from being 'loved and treasured' by their parents. The fact is, a child's greatest security comes from knowing their parents are in love with each other and have a strong marriage. Let's stop with the false, politically correct pop-psych.

Big (-:
Um well, in a sense I did and that was part of the "problem"- but hey, this we will discuss over coffee one day,ok? And yes I agree about being in tune with my core values, except for me, they formulated later in life...
I love your points of view...keep 'em coming.

Dear Reetha
You summarize in such a clear and concise way topics which, maybe had I had them to think about I would have chosen a different partner - who I later parted from, but that's not the point. It's so unromantic on one hand but on the other can make relationships much deeper, I believe. Thanks for this and either I'll use it next time :-) or pass it on to my kids when they're of age...if she'll listen!
